Importing updated models into existing design

I am working on a part for a customer and after sending him a few test pieces he sent me back a step file with an updated model with a few changes he wanted. However, I already have my setup and program built around the original model he sent me. Is there a way to replace the original model with the new one? And if not, what is the best way to do this?
