Colorado State University advances on ‘IT alignment’ project

Colorado State University is moving ahead on an IT modernization initiative that will unfold in four phases, starting with a discovery phase.

Colorado State University on Wednesday announced that it’s moving ahead on a project designed to bring a more coordinated, secure and sustainable IT operating model.

The work follows a directive from Amy Parsons, the university’s president, to “align” IT functions across the university, a project hoped to “improve coordination among IT units, increase efficiency in resource and cost allocation, and strengthen enterprise capabilities to support the future of artificial intelligence,” according to a recent announcement.

“This work is about bringing our IT community together in a way that builds on the strengths and technology expertise that already exists across our campus,” Brandon Bernier, vice president for information technology and chief information officer, said in the announcement. “Our goal is to create a more coordinated, secure and sustainable technology operating model that better supports the university’s teaching, research, outreach and administrative missions.”

The project is also hoped to prepare the institution for the adoption of artificial intelligence tools and other emerging technologies, and also to improve the school’s cybersecurity offerings.

The project is to unfold in four phases — discovery, design, transition and implementation — with each phase including representatives from the university’s information technology division and advisory groups. In the upcoming discovery phase, a team will gather information from across campus before workshops are held to “identify opportunities.”
