Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has doubled down on his side's bold attempts to sign retired star Gareth Bale. 

The Welsh side are still celebrating their recent promotion to League Two, after a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood ensured their place in the EFL next season. 

And, as things look on the up for Wrexham, it's led to an ambitious attempt to sign one of the most talented football players from the last decade.

On Tuesday, Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney took to Twitter to suggest that Bale should come out of retirement and play for the soon-to-be League Two outfit. 

Bale replied, and sent hundreds of Wrexham fans into frenzy, before Reynolds swiftly joined in the conversation to try and persuade the Welshman to join the club. 

Discussions began when McElhenney published a video on his Twitter account where a long-haired Bale said: 'Hi Rob, just want to congratulate you on your promotion and everything you are doing at Wrexham.'

The video has been viewed over 9.8million times now, with keen Wrexham fans begging the Welsh legend to join their side.

McElhenney then, in response to the viral clip, posted: 'Hey Gareth Bale let's play golf, where I totally won't spend four hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season.'

Playing along, Bale later tweeted back: 'Depends what course...' He also tagged St Andrews' course. 

That's when Reynolds decided to join the conversation, as he replied to Bale's tweet by saying: 'I will shave a professional-grade golf course into Rob’s back if you’ll give Wrexham a season.'

He then replied to his own tweet and said: 'Update: after an online image search, it appears Rob does not have the requisite body hair to support this plan.' 

There's yet to be a response from the former Real Madrid and Spurs winger but one can imagine that he won't actually be signing for the National League champions. 

Bale retired from football in January at the relatively young age of just 33 , seven months after joining American side LAFC.

He has been enjoying his retirement by relaxing and playing on some of the world's best golf courses and has remained distant from a return to football in any capacity.

Elsewhere, it's been a fairy-tale week for the Welsh side, who were confirmed as National League champions after beating Boreham Wood 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

A brace from Paul Mullin and a strike from Elliot Lee helped ensure all three points for the hosts, which left McElhenney and Reynolds in tears at full-time. 

Speaking at the time, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson insisted that it was an 'outstanding' moment for the side, who had been in non-league turmoil for 15 years.
