A "possible security threat" that prompted the closure of Denver International Airport's Level 6 West has been cleared, airport officials said at 6:41 p.m.

The Denver police bomb squad responded after a K9 alerted to an unattended bag in the terminal, airport officials said. The area — including the west security checkpoint and departures area — were evacuated and closed "out of an abundance of caution" while the investigation was underway.

Airport officials had announced the area was closed due to the possible threat just after 5:30 p.m.

"West Level 6 will reopen and begin normal operations momentarily, including the West Security Checkpoint, departures area and United check-in counters," officials said in the 6:41 p.m. post.

During the closure, airport officials told passengers to use Level 6 East for all departure processing and security screening.
