UNLV director of athletics Erick Harper will make a base salary of $505,000 per year under his new contract with the university.

Harper’s new four-year deal with UNLV, which was announced Tuesday, comes as he’s helped the department see success in various sports, namely football.

Harper hired former head coach Barry Odom and current coach Dan Mullen, which bucked the trend of the Rebels seldomly succeeding on the field. They have played in bowl games in three straight years while also reaching the Mountain West Conference title game three years in a row, both for the first time in school history.

UNLV has won a combined 20 regular-season and conference tournament championships under Harper.

Men’s basketball coach Josh Pastner also was hired by Harper, who started on Jan. 1, 2022.

Besides his salary, Harper will receive bonuses if UNLV athletics programs and individuals hit certain milestones, according to the contract obtained by the Review-Journal.

Possible bonuses include:

-$15,000 each year the total grade point average of all student athletes is 3.0 or greater;

-$10,000 each year the graduation success rate of student athletes is 80 percent or higher,

-$15,000 each year football wins or ties for the regular season Mountain West Conference Championship;

-$5,00 for winning Mountain West Conference championship football game;

-$10,000 for appearing in any non-College Football Playoff bowl game;

-$5,000 for winning a non-CFP bowl game;

-$25,000 for each round a bye the Rebels are in the CFP;

-$100,000 for winning the CFP national championship;

-$5,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams winning the regular season conference championship;

-$5,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams appearing in the MWC championship game;

-$10,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams winning the MWC championship game;

-$10,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams making the NCAA tournament;

-$10,000 for every round the men’s or women’s basketball teams advance in the NCAA tournament;

-$10,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams making the Final Four;

-$15,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams winning the national championship;

-$5,000 per round the men’s or women’s basketball teams play in either the NIT, WNIT, or Crown tournaments;

-$25,000 for either the men’s or women’s basketball teams winning the NIT, WNIT or Crown basketball tournaments;

-$2,500 for any non-football, men’s or women’s basketball teams making an NCAA tournament;

-$25,000 for any non-football, men’s or women’s basketball teams winning the NCAA Championship as a team or individual.

UNLV will pay for one loaner vehicle for Harper to use as long as he’s employed by the university.

Harper will receive 12 season tickets for all sports and tickets to various post season games at his request.

Harper has played a role in fundraising, name image and likeness and revenue sharing efforts at the school, allowing UNLV to be competitive in luring quality coaches and players to the university.

UNLV also has seen success in the classroom during Harper’s tenure. After the spring 2025 semester, student athletes’ collective GPA was 3.0 or higher with a graduation rate of 88 percent.
