Islam Makhachev admitted he has felt 'angry' towards his coach and mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov for how hard the ex-UFC champion pushes him in training. 

Khabib, who retired undefeated and passed on the torch to Makhachev, a similarly wrestling-dominant fighter from Dagestan, has been preparing the title-contender for his clash with Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. 

He was famous for his relentless style and trained at an intensity matched by almost nobody else. 

Clearly he is upholding the same standards for Makhachev and while the 31-year-old will hope to reap the rewards, he admitted it has been a struggle at times. 

'Sometimes, I am angry because he's not training now and is still pushing us so hard,' Makhachev told BT Sport. 

'I told the other coach 'Hey, this guy not control' because if we did sparring or wrestling - I remember when we're training we did sparring, grappling, wrestling and then finished [the training]. But always he has some exercise for us after this training.

'I think so [tougher coach than his late father Abdulmanap] because he doesn't have too much experience being a coach, but he pushes us so hard. 

'For example, this camp, just this week I have been light training but all other months, it has been so hard.'

Khabib's late father Abdulmanap trained a stable of Dagestani fighters, focusing primarily on his son. 

But the 29-0 retired star has transitioned into the role and is fully confident his man will get the job done on Saturday night. 

'This is what Islam is gonna do with Charles Oliveira: he's gonna ride him, how you ride your horse. Save this video because a lot of people underestimate Islam,' Nurmagomedov said in a recent video.  

'They think Charles Oliveira has a ground game. He doesn't have a ground game. If you tap eight times in UFC, how can you say you have a ground game? You tapped eight times.'
