Justin Gaethje delivered a brutal response to being called out by Conor McGregor after his knockout win over Dustin Poirier in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

The American knocked out Poirier in round two to avenge his 2018 defeat and claim the symbolic BMF title - the 'baddest motherf****r'.

Gaethje has now set himself up with the chance to tackle the winner of October's lightweight title bout between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira.

McGregor was quick to call Gaethje out on social media, writing 'Justin, I’ll slap you around' - throwing his fight with Michael Chandler into doubt.

'I’m the real bmf, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, f*** Chandler, you want it call for it.'

Gaethje issued a quick rebuttal when asked about McGregor's posts in the post-fight press conference.

The 34-year-old claimed McGregor had previously turned him down on six occasions before now pursuing a fight.

'I think he's turned me down six times and usually, you have to lose to fight him,’ Gaethje said.

‘So I don't know what's going on.’

McGregor currently must complete six months of random drug testing with USADA, the UFC's official anti-doping partner before being cleared to return to competition.

The 35-year-old has insisted to fans that he will ‘get a fight on’, despite missing the USADA drug testing deadline to fight this year.
