Tuscaloosa police shut down the Strip on University Boulevard due to extreme overcrowding after the University of Alabama A-Day football scrimmage with one arrest reported for underage drinking and gun possession, in response City Councilman Kip Tyner posted blaming out-of-town visitors from areas like Lipscomb, Bessemer, Ensley, and Hale County before deleting the post and apologizing saying he should have said nothing, and he has “never had a racist bone in his body.”

6. U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) announced a $34 million funding increase for Mobile Bay in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fiscal Year 2026 Work Plan, representing more than a 60% increase to provide flexibility for disposing of dredged material and increasing beneficial use sites while supporting the Port of Mobile and preserving natural resources.

5. Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard wrote that Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell misfired in his attack on the Attorney General’s Office, claiming a war on good cops, noting the referenced cases were handled by district attorneys in Montgomery and Morgan counties, not the AG’s office, which only assisted on appeals, while emphasizing the need for independent justice without political myths.

Arthur Orr (R-Decatur), calling him the financial albatross of public education, and demanded the Alabama Policy Institute lose its nonprofit status after a 38% increase in school choice funding under the CHOOSE Act from $180 million to $251.2 million because its members may use a voucher.

3. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Ca.) faced multiple credible sexual misconduct and assault allegations from women, including interns and staff, leading him to suspend his California gubernatorial campaign with all 21 congressional endorsers withdrawing support, and House Democratic leadership urged him to drop out, while they all knew about the open secret for years.
