Infinipace, a team of five researchers from Oxford, has been shortlisted as semi-finalists in the One Start competition. They will now attend a bootcamp in London, where they will present their idea of a 'perpetual' cardiac pacemaker.

This is an innovative pacemaker design for which energy harvesting technology, patient-specific optimised software and novel algorithmic techniques are combined together to give birth to the next generation of everlasting implantable pacemakers.

The team includes Marco Diciolla, Alexandru Mereacre, Taolue Chen and Andrew Markham from Department of Computer Science, and Sara Sorrel, a student of Medical Genetics from Indiana University School of Medicine (visiting Oxford). 

The researchers have been funded by the ERC Advanced Grant VERIWARE (www.veriware.org) and Oxford Martin School Institute for the Future of Computing. OneStart, the World's Largest Idea Competition, was launched this year by Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable in partnership with SROne, the venture capital arm of GlaxoSmithKline. Through OneStart, OBR and SROne are looking to catalyse the commercialisation of European science by offering expert advice and resources to the next generation of bioentrepreneurs.
