The Times Higher Education Supplement has reported that the University of Oxford is now ranked top for research income in the UK. The figures are based on the year 2014/15.
Ian Walmsley, Oxford’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said that the increase in funding was due to a ‘few exceptionally large awards’.
One such award is the £38million awarded by the EPSRC to the Networked Quantum Information Technologies research project (known as NQIT). Oxford is one of four Quantum Technology hubs on this project, which involves several universities. Three Department of Computer Science Professors are part of the Oxford research team – Marina Jirotka, Samson Abramsky and Jonathan Barrett.
