The department has added a women’s web page to its website to celebrate their achievements and highlight activities that support them.

The new website should help promote Computer Science to women, who are currently under-represented in Computer Science at Oxford. According to a snapshot taken on 1 December 2017, 17.3% of our undergraduate students (across single and joint honours) and 18% of academic and research staff are women. This under-representation is typical across the UK: for example, the Equality Challenge Unit reported that women made up 17.6% of the undergraduate headcount in 2015/2016.

The department is committed to the principles of the Athena Swan Charter, and currently holds a Bronze Award. This is awarded for recognition of work undertaken to address gender equality, including barriers to progression which affect women. The department will be submitting its next application, to demonstrate that they are maintaining Bronze level as a minimum, in April 2018.

On the department's new web page, there are a selection of profiles. They include current students, discussing the course, the post-study career paths of alumnae, and the research and teaching activities of our staff. The page links through to the Oxford Women in Computer Science Society, and to the events page where we list schools events aimed at young women.
