Professor Leslie Ann Goldberg, Head of the Department of Computer Science, has been appointed to the inaugural cohort of Fellows of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences. She joins a distinguished group of UK-based mathematicians working across academia, education, business, industry and government.

The Academy, founded in September 2023, aims to provide an authoritative and influential voice for the mathematical sciences. Its new Fellowship brings together experts from across the UK to support national priorities such as strengthening maths education, advancing responsible AI, addressing the mathematical talent pipeline, and applying mathematics to tackle climate change.

I'm delighted to be a Fellow of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences. Its simple mission - to benefit society through the power of mathematics - is something that I completely support. Professor Leslie Ann Goldberg

She joins eleven other academics from across the University in this honour, selected for their exceptional contributions to the mathematical sciences through research, leadership, and real-world application.

As Fellows of the Academy, they will come together in service of the wider public good: bringing independent expertise to bear on national priorities, championing excellence in mathematics education, strengthening the UK’s research and innovation base, and helping to ensure that mathematics continues to deliver opportunity, resilience, and prosperity across our four nations. Dame Alison Etheridge, founding President of the Academy and Professor of Probability at Oxford’s Department of Statistics
