Memorial Regional Health is excited to welcome two new physicians to its Family Medicine/Primary Care team. This month, Dr. Julian Carrier and Dr. Laurisa Webster will begin caring for patients, bringing distinctive experiences, a passion for rural healthcare and a shared belief that the best medicine begins with listening, educating and building lasting relationships with patients.
At Memorial Regional Health, Family Medicine is built on a foundation of preventive care, wellness and long-term relationships with patients. The addition of the two new providers further strengthens that commitment, bringing two physicians who share a passion for caring for individuals and families through every stage of life.
For Dr. Carrier, the journey to family medicine began after returning home from military service in Iraq. While exploring careers in healthcare, he realized that if he was going back to school, he wanted to pursue medicine. It was a decision that gave him a new way to serve others.
“Medicine offered me the opportunity to give back to the world in a way the military did not,” he said.
That desire to serve has been a common thread throughout Dr. Carrier’s life. Before becoming a physician, he earned a degree in aviation technology and served in the Colorado and Missouri Army National Guard, leading soldiers during a combat deployment to Iraq. Along the way, he also became a commercial pilot, completed Army Jump School, trained as a wildland firefighter and later worked in medical research and education.
While his experiences have been diverse, family medicine felt like the natural fit. Dr. Carrier enjoys the variety the specialty offers, from caring for children to older adults and treating everything from routine illnesses to chronic conditions. More importantly, he values the relationships that develop over time.
“I like to get to know people,” he said. “The continuity of care in family medicine was another draw.”
When asked what he hopes patients remember after an appointment, his answer is simple:
“I hope they feel that I have listened to them.” He says the most rewarding moments in medicine come when patients begin to feel better and know they’ve made progress together.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Carrier and his wife are looking forward to embracing everything Northwest Colorado has to offer. They’re excited to spend time fly-fishing, camping, mountain biking, learning to hunt big game and becoming part of the Craig community.
As he begins caring for patients at Memorial Regional Health, Dr. Carrier says he is honored to serve the people of Moffat County and looks forward to caring for families for years to come.
Get to know Dr. Webster
For Dr. Webster, the path to family medicine began long before medical school. Growing up in rural northern Saskatchewan, she often accompanied her father, a bush pilot, as he flew physicians to remote clinics. Those early experiences gave her a firsthand look at the vital role healthcare providers play in rural communities and sparked her dream of becoming a physician.
As she grew older, that interest expanded into a passion for fitness, nutrition and wellness. Fascinated by the human body and its ability to heal, Dr. Webster knew she wanted a career that would allow her to help others achieve healthier lives. Family medicine proved to be the perfect fit, combining preventive care, patient education and the opportunity to care for individuals and families through every stage of life. She completed her family medicine residency through the Idaho Rural Training Track before spending the past several years caring for patients in family practice and urgent care settings.
Dr. Webster says one of the greatest rewards of rural healthcare is becoming part of the community she serves. She enjoys caring for a broad spectrum of patients while building relationships that extend far beyond a single office visit. Her approach centers on education, helping patients feel informed, comfortable and empowered to make the best decisions for their health.
As she, her husband Dan, and their dog, Ullr, settle into northwest Colorado, Dr. Webster is looking forward to exploring everything the Yampa Valley has to offer. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, dirt biking, and snowboarding are among her favorite pastimes, and she’s excited to enjoy them in her new backyard. Most of all, she looks forward to getting to know the people of Moffat County and helping them live the healthiest version of their lives.
The addition of Dr. Carrier and Dr. Webster means more opportunities for individuals and families to establish care close to home. Whether it’s preventive care, annual wellness visits, management of chronic conditions, or treatment for everyday illnesses, patients can count on receiving comprehensive, compassionate care from providers who are committed to the health of the communities they serve.
