Roy Hodgson has admitted Chelsea will not be 'frightened' by facing his Crystal Palace side on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

The Eagles are looking for their first win in seven games, despite having drawn their last two matches against Manchester City and Brighton

Palace, meanwhile, have not beaten Chelsea in their last 10 meetings, and come into this game with Odsoune Edouard, Joel Ward and Sam Johnstone all injured.

While Mauricio Pochettino's side have had their fair share of injuries too, Hodgson lumped praise on their opponents, saying: 'When you look at their squad, most teams will look at it and think this is going to be a very tough game.

'I don't think we'll go to Chelsea with them being frightened out of their wits with the team we can come with, but I also believe we'll go there and give them as good a game as we've given the last three teams we've played — all of which are European teams.'

Roy Hodgson believes Chelsea 'will not fear Crystal Palace' ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night

Palace have not won against Chelsea in their last 10 meetings, with their most previous victory against their London rivals coming in 2017 at Selhurst Park

Hodgson lumped praise on Michael Olise after he set up Jordan Ayew for a goal during their 1-1 draw against Brighton, with the winger also scoring against Man City

After drawing both of their last two games, Palace have the chance to go one-point behind Chelsea in the Premier league table in 13th place.

While the Blues will be the favourites to win at Stamford Bridge, Hodgson lumped praise on several key players, including Michael Olise, who starred for Palace last week against Brighton, setting up Jordan Ayew who put the Eagles a goal up.

Olise also scored a stoppage-time penalty to help rescue a point against Man City the week before.

'We've been blessed with Wilfried [Zaha] over the years, but now we have Olise and also Eberechi Eze — two players who can do that job and get the crowd buzzing,' Hodgson said.

'We believe that with guys like Marc [Guehi] and Joachim Andersen, Eze, Olise, [Odsonne] Edouard and [Jean-Philippe] Mateta and what they're doing this year, there is enough threat in our team to get us where we would like to be at the end of the season.'

Palace have been buoyed by the return of Eze who was recently ruled out for several games with an ankle injury.

Yet, they are still without key stars Johnstone and Edouard, with Hodgson not certain on when the pair could return.

'I don't know,' he noted. 'Johnstone I'm sure won't be. Edouard, they [the medical staff] would have to surprise me, but it doesn't look like that's the situation at the moment.

'But to be fair at the moment, the players who have come in are doing well enough, so I don't think there would be any reason to bemoan the fact they're not there.

'If they were there, it might mean that Henderson and Mateta didn't play. At the moment, those two have probably deserved to play.'

Meanwhile, Pochettino gave an update on his injury list, ruling Enzo Fernandez and Lesley Ugochukwu out of their clash against Palace but added Moises Caicedo could make a return after missing their trip to Wolves.

Eberechi Eze recovered from an ankle injury to make his return against Man City, before also featuring against Brighton

Meanwhile, Pochettino hinted that Moises Caicedo could return for Chelsea on Wednesday

But the Argentine manager has ruled Enzo Fernandez out of their clash against Palace

'No, Enzo [Fernandez], no. But Mo [Caicedo], hopefully, yes. But he has a high fever,' he said ahead of the game.

'I hope that tomorrow he can train a little bit and be ready for Palace.

'With Lesley [Ugochukwu], we will assess him but I think he felt his hamstring again. I said in the press conference it is important how we reintroduce players, but we were forced because of the problem with Moises to play Lesley.

'It's a difficult situation because now he's a player we're going to miss, we hope not for too much [time]. We need all of the players.'
