Perez refuses to discuss Mbappe saga

President Florentino Perez refused to discuss Real Madrid's pursuit of Kylian Mbappe after the Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona.

Vinicius Jr scored a first-half hat-trick in a 4-1 victory as Carlo Ancelotti's side claimed a  first trophy of the season in Riyadh on Sunday.

Is Lingard off to the MLS?

Jesse Lingard's new agents have been exploring possibilities in the MLS market over the weekend with Portland Timbers among those sounded out.

Lingard has changed his representatives as he strives to find a new club. He has been a free agent since leaving Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Why did Roma sack Mourinho?

Roma confirmed the sacking of manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday morning, bringing an end to his two-and-a-half year reign in the Italian capital.

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham boss won the fans over in his first season by winning the Europa Conference League , and led his side to the final of the Europa League last term, before they lost to Sevilla on penalties.

But Roma have fallen away badly in 2023-24 and currently sit ninth in Serie A, forcing the board to step in and relieve Mourinho of his duties. He leaves with a record of 68 wins, 30 draws and 40 losses from his 138 games in charge.

So where did it all go wrong? Mail Sport takes a look below...

Chelsea 'eye-up Sporting Lisbon striker Gyokeres'

Chelsea have had a £73million offer for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres rejected, according to reports.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have struggled in front of goal this term, with their 35 goals in 21 league games making them the third-lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League.

The report states Gyokeres has a release clause of €100m (£86m), and Chelsea's offer falls comfortably short of this valuation.

Latest transfer gossip from across the globe

Halfway through the January transfer window, one of the players most expected to be on the move is yet to find himself a new club.

That man in question is obviously Kalvin Phillips, who has long been linked with a move away from Manchester City in search of regular football.

Newcastle have reportedly called off their pursuit of the England international due to City demanding a £7million loan fee, but that hasn't put off West Ham, Everton and Juventus.

Below, Mail Sport takes a look at the transfer rumours on Tuesday morning.

Newcastle drop out of Phillips race

Newcastle have pulled out of a potential January move for Kalvin Phillips because of the demands being placed on the deal by Manchester City, according to reports.

Phillips is determined to seal a January exit for another Premier League suitor ahead of this summer's European Championship with his place in the England team under scrutiny.

The former Leeds midfielder has been starved off opportunities since joining the reigning English and European champions in a £45m move two-years ago and was recently signalled for a temporary switch to Newcastle.

Who will replace Mourinho?

Daniele De Rossi is favourite to make a return to Roma and replace Jose Mourinho as head coach.

Talks are underway with 40-year-old De Rossi who, though he made over 600 appearances in Roma's midfield, has limited coaching experience having worked with the Italian federation and Serie B side SPAL, who sacked him a year ago.

He played for the club between 2001 and 2019 having joined the club's academy in 2000, going onto captain the club and win two Coppa Italias before leaving for Boca Juniors.

Mail Sport understands Graham Potter and Antonio Conte are also under consideration.
