Colours of the Past: A Creative Writing Exhibition showcases the personal stories of women from Edinburgh’s Black and Asian communities at the Writers’ Museum until Sunday 29 November.

Organised in partnership with Networking Key Services (NKS), Mwamba and Sikh Sanjog, the exhibition is the culmination of a series of creative writing workshops exploring the themes of memory, journeys, and the meaning of home.

The workshops invited participants to reflect on objects on display at the Museum of Edinburgh before using personal belongings as inspiration to write and share their own stories.

The exhibition brings these powerful personal narratives together through photographs, notebooks and a specially produced exhibition booklet that brings together all their stories and their objects.

Councillor Margaret Graham, Culture and Communities Convener, said:

Colours of the Past is a moving celebration of Edinburgh’s diverse communities and the stories that shape who we are. By bringing together memories, personal objects and creative writing, this exhibition offers a unique insight into the lives and experiences of women from across our city.

I’d encourage residents and visitors alike to visit the Writers’ Museum and discover these inspiring stories, which remind us of the many different journeys that make Edinburgh the vibrant and welcoming city it is today.

Participant Sushmita Wiebe said:

One day, a few hours, all together in a beautiful museum! Happiness and melancholiness, the universe collating, stories emerging with loving guidance. Togetherness, lovingness, and goodness exist.

One of the many peak experiences in life for sure.

Admission is free.
