The Branch of “Mechanical Engineering Division-technology” “Atommash” JSC in Volgodonsk ( part of “Atomenergomash” machine building subdivision of ROSATOM) completed the key stage of nuclear equipment manufacture – the closure weld performance on Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) for Akkuyu NPP in Turkey. After manufacture of Upper and Lower Semi-Vessels, the specialists performed fit-up of these parts.

 The welding was performed during 10 days with continuous heating of the weld zone; the temperature of heating was ranging from 150 to 300 degrees. After performance of welding operations, the Reactor Pressure Vessel weighing 320 tons was placed in the furnace using the crane; the Item will be heat treated there during two days. Then, the specialists will carry out a full range of inspection operations of the weld, including Radiographic test.

Simultaneously with the manufacture of the Reactor Pressure Vessel, the Internals for it as well as the Reactor Cover and the Upper Unit are produced at the Plant.

A Reactor is equipment of the safety class 1.  It is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical Bottom, inside of which the Core and the Internals are located. The Reactor is sealed with a Coverfrom above with mechanisms drives and Reactor regulation and protection rod and Output Nozzles of the sensors cables of In-Core Instrumentation Detector installed on it. The Cover is fixed to the Vessel with Studs. In the upper part of the Vessel, there are the Nozzles for supplying and discharging of the coolant, as well as the Nozzles for emergency supply of the Coolant when the circuit is depressurized.

Atomenergomash JSC is a single-source manufacturer of the reactor plant equipment and  turbine island for all four units of Akkuyu NPP. Manufacturing enterprises of the division produce the reactors, steam generators, pumping, heat-exchanging and other equipment that will ensure the reliable and safe operation of nuclear power plants throughout the entire operation life. Also, the division’s enterprises are currently manufacturing the reactor equipment for nuclear power plants being built in India, Bangladesh, China, Russia, and in other countries.

Akkuyu NPP is the first Nuclear Power Plant being constructed in the Republic of Turkey. Akkuyu NPP Project includes four Units with WWER type 3+ generation reactors of Russian design. The capacity of each nuclear power unit shall be 1200 MW. To date, the project financing is provided by the Russian part in full. Construction of Akkuyu NPP is the world’s first project in nuclear industry being implemented according to Build-Own-Operate model.
