You know that awesome developer Night School Studio? The one behind Oxenfree and its 2023 sequel? Yeah, it's gone. Netflix shut it down.

This news comes from Game File, confirming that the streaming giant has closed two studios: the aforementioned Night School Studio and a lesser known entity called Moonloot. The latter was founded in 2022 and unfortunately doesn't have any published titles, but it was reportedly working on a game inspired by Animal Crossing.

As for Night School, the developer most recently launched a short streaming game called Unhinged which, according to Games industry, was hailed by Netflix as one of its most successful cloud game debuts alongside FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition. Cracking job Netflix, what a wise decision.

Game File reports that the closure is due to a refocus of priorities over at Netflix, with the company looking to prioritise 'kids gaming, party games, story-driven fare and games with mainstream hooks', like the critically-panned FIFA game.

"We see an opportunity to be more focused in our execution, so we are making organizational changes to the business to match those priorities."

Netflix is also cutting jobs from its internal games team, though exactly how many people have been affected is unknown.

Honestly, we're sick of this. When a company hails a game as a success and then decides to just shut down the studio anyway, what's the point? Seriously, what's the point? Ridiculous.
