Applicant filed request for reconsideration over top level domain application deadline.

ICANN’s Board Accountability Mechanisms Committee (BAMC) has denied a reconsideration request (pdf) from a prospective new TLD applicant who wanted extra time to apply.
LaToya Hopelyn Johnson-McKenzie filed the request after failing to secure the funds and complete an application on time for her organization, Society of Initiatives for HOPE (UUSiH).
The applicant was approved for the Application Support Program in mid-June, but said she did not have time to secure the necessary funds and complete the application by this week’s deadline. She attributed some of the delay to a medical episode.
The BAMC evaluated whether the applicant’s request for an Urgent Request for Reconsideration qualified as urgent. It determined (pdf) that it was not.
Johnson-McKenzie’s argument that the board’s action or inaction impacted her was a bit of a stretch. Her argument seemed to be that since the board approved the applicant guidebook setting the rules, and ICANN staff followed the guidebook in refusing an extension of time, ICANN’s action impacted her ability to apply.
