The AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, an affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have added additional defensive depth for the 2026-27 season. According to a team announcement, the AHL Canucks have signed Isaac Belliveau to a one-year contract.

Belliveau, 23, has been in the professional circuit for three years now. The Fleurimont, Quebec, native was drafted with the 154th pick of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins and was fresh off a trade from the QMJHL’s Rimouski Océanic to the Gatineau Olympiques leading up to the draft.

Understandably, his production in the QMJHL increased as he grew older. In his two years after being selected by the Penguins, Belliveau registered 21 goals and 84 points in 122 games with a +67 rating. Additionally, Belliveau scored four goals and 11 points in 20 postseason contests with a +17 rating.

Since he transitioned to professional hockey, his offensive productivity has not come close to matching his previous performance level. During his two years with the Penguins organization, he primarily played for the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, tallying 18 goals and 54 points over 95 games. Still, he had some opportunities at the AHL level, finishing with one goal and seven points in 24 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Leading up to the 2025-26 season, Belliveau was traded to the Buffalo Sabres, alongside Conor Timmins, in the trade that sent Connor Clifton to Pittsburgh. He spent the entire season with the AHL’s Rochester Americans, registering one goal and six points in 36 games with a -9 rating.
