Xavier Trudeau, the 18-year-old son of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, didn't receive the warmest welcome from a crowd at a music festival he recently headlined.
Justin Trudeau's son performed an auto-tuned rap at a music festival while his father and his girlfriend, Katy Perry, frolic around the globe together.
Xavier Trudeau, 18, took the stage at the Shawarma Fest in Ottawa on June 7, and newly resurfaced footage captured him sharing his newfound passion for R&B music.
The former Canadian prime minister's son, who also goes by Xav, launched his music career in February 2025 when he dropped his first single, 'Til the Nights Done.'
The young artist headlined the festival last month, but when he hit the stage, the crowd appeared to go silent, the clip showed.
Xavier donned baggy tan jeans, a black t-shirt, sneakers, and black sunglasses as he sang on the outdoor stage.
Meanwhile, the small crowd remained quiet as some of them bopped their heads and recorded him, but did not sing along.
The singer faced intense scrutiny when he first announced his new hobby, and even though more than a year has passed, it seems like people still aren't on board.
'And the crowd goes silent,' a commenter wrote under a clip of his recent gig, while another wrote: 'Talentless.'

Xavier continues to pursue his passion for music while his father, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and pop star Katy Perry, display their loved for one another at events
'This is kinda garbage lmao. I swear my city will put anyone in front of a crowd lmao,' someone else chimed in.
'Disgrace,' a user simply put.
Xavier comes from a line of Canadian prime ministers, but has made it clear that his dream is music, not politics.
After receiving a slew of backlash for headlining the annual event honoring Middle Eastern cuisine and culture, the rapper hit back at critics who claimed he got the gig because of who he's related to.
'His agent must be having a heck of a time getting gigs. Everyone hates him because of his Dad, and he can't sing. Great combo,' one person wrote.
'How much did Trudeau pay for this appearance?' another asked.
'Who cares! But obviously he needs as much publicity as possible because he's not that great of a singer,' a third added.
But in an interview with Vulture, Xavier defended his choice to pursue an entertainment career and urged listeners not to be discouraged if they dislike his father's politics.

'If they don’t like my dad, right away, they don’t like me. If you don’t like me because you don’t like my music, and you think it’s the worst thing in the world? Okay, fine. I’ll live with that. But when you don’t even give it a shot? I can’t respect that,' he told the publication.
Xavier coincidentally dropped his first single a few weeks after Trudeau made international headlines for resigning as Canada's prime minister.
The young rapper denied that the decision was calculated, telling Vulture that the song had already been pitched to Spotify and was scheduled to come out before Trudeau announced his resignation.
Unlike other 'nepo babies,' the youngster has not shied away from acknowledging who his father is, even posting a video of Trudeau reacting to one of his songs.
'It has its benefits, and it has its negatives, like anything has. You could be the son of a lawyer and have challenges that you’d have to go through,' he told Vulture.
'Obviously, mine’s a little bit more specific, but I definitely think it’s a benefit.'
While he's been out trying to grow in the music industry, Xavier's father, Justin, and his girlfriend, pop star Katy Perry, have been attending event after event together.

On July 6, Perry, who ended her six-year engagement with actor Orlando Bloom in June 2025, couldn't help but profess her love for her boyfriend when they made their red carpet debut at the premiere of her concert film during the 25th Annual Tribeca Festival in NYC.
The 41-year-old songstress, who was first linked to the former Prime Minister of Canada last year, was supported by Trudeau at the screening of Katy Perry's The Lifetimes Tour - Live From Paris during the festivities.
During a question-and-answer session after the screening, Perry confessed that Trudeau was the 'love of my life.'
While speaking about the shows featured in the concert film, and whether she considered herself the same person at the end of the 91-date tour, the hitmaker noted that she and Trudeau were already an item at the time of the performances in November 2025.
'I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love,' she confessed. 'Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that, because I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite.
'I fly super high and like touch the veiled cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now,' Perry added.
Trudeau was previously married to Canadian TV host Sophie Grégoire until their separation in August 2023 after 18 years together.
He and Grégoire share three children: Xavier, Hadrien, and Ella-Grace Margaret Trudeau.
Perry shares one child with Bloom, daughter Daisy Dove Bloom. The five-year-old was born in August 2020.
