Video captured the moment police stormed a house and found £4million in cash stuffed in shopping bags – during one of the 'largest ever cash seizures'.

Officers from the Met stopped a suspicious vehicle and its 54-year-old driver in Catford, south London on Wednesday evening.

After discovering £35,000 in a Sports Direct bag they searched an address linked to the suspect – which led to the discovery of millions of pounds in notes.

Footage shows a police officer counting out the wads of cash and whispering an expletive in shock.

The officers also found one kilogram of the Class A drug cocaine.

A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property and remains in police custody.

In footage released today, an officer can be seen rummaging through a bag in the car before saying: 'Large quantity of cash. An extremely large quantity of cash.'

More cash was later found in two bedrooms of a house connected to the suspect. One of the officers says, 'there's about three more down there, three in the wardrobe and then two behind there at least.'

The police officer then tips out the contents of a Lidl bag – causing dozens of wads of cash to fall out onto the bed.

In the aftermath of the search photos show bundles of notes laid out onto pieces of cardboard across the bed – which have come from inside supermarket bags including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Lidl and B&M.

Commander Paul Brogen described the cash seizure as 'one of the largest we've seen'.

He added: 'This shows the impact proactive local policing can have in tackling serious and organised crime.

'The arrest highlights the vital role stop and search, including stopping suspect vehicles, can play in helping officers to identify criminal activity.

'This result is testament to the persistence and dedication of the officers involved. We'll continue to work relentlessly to disrupt and target those who seek to profit from illegal drugs and cause harm in our communities.'

The Met said there are 'clear links between the supply of illegal drugs and the serious violence that causes such fear and devastation in communities'.
