The fan-favorite Buffalo, NY jam band last performed together in August 2023.

Aqueous, the Buffalo, NY jam band that has been on an indefinite hiatus for the last three years, appears to be teasing a reunion.

On Friday, the group’s long-dormant social media accounts shared a brief video clip featuring text that reads, “Tuesday 8.18.” While the band’s Facebook page still features posts and photos from before its hiatus, its profile picture has been updated to the band’s recognizable logo. The band’s Instagram has notably been cleared of all posts except the new clip pointing to this coming Tuesday.

In 2022, as Aqueous keyboardist, guitarist, and vocalist Dave Loss was preparing to welcome his first child, the band announced that it would take the rest of the year off from the road and hinted that work on a new album was underway in the interim. But in early 2023, Loss informed fans in a lengthy post that the hiatus would continue indefinitely following a handful of performances later that year. The group last performed live in August 2023 at the second edition of its curated festival, The Great Flamingle, which doubled as a send-off for Aqueous and its fans. The album they hinted at in 2022 was never released.

“Music and this band have been the priority in my life for a very long time, but with the birth of my son that started to change,” Loss wrote when the band announced its indefinite hiatus. “I have decided that it is time for me to step away from the band to be home with my family. Although it was a very difficult decision, I know it is the right one for me. There will still be some music for me to play going forward, but the full-time touring musician gig is just not one that fits my life at the moment.”

“These past 16 years with the band have been nothing short of incredible,” Loss added. “It has been a journey that has shaped my life in more ways than I even know. … The 18 year old me wouldn’t believe some of things Aqueous was able to do. And not to mention, doing all this with your best friends?! Pretty damn cool if you ask me.”

As guitarist/vocalist Mike Gantzer added in a separate post at the time, “Life can be unpredictable and beautiful, challenging and rewarding, and so many other wonderfully contrasting things, but I’m genuinely happy and excited for all of us on our current/respective paths in life. Embracing change has been one of the great lessons of my life (that I’m still learning) and I look forward to everything to come as I reflect on everything that has been with gratitude and love. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making our literal dreams come true, and know that every step I take in music moving forward seeks to honor that.”

In the years since the Aqueous hiatus began, both guitarist Gantzer and bassist Evan McPhaden have welcomed children of their own. Mike Gantzer has been the most active Aqueous member since the band went on ice. In addition to working with Death Kings (his punk/metal group featuring Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik), briefly touring as a stand-in with Spafford, and releasing music of his own, he has been serving as the guitarist for Andy Frasco & The U.N. since late 2025.

While it remains unclear what exactly Aqueous will be revealing on Tuesday, one thing is certain: We’re very excited.
