British entrepreneur ranks world's most exclusive holiday destinations - branding the Maldives 'a honeymoon factory' and saying classy people left Santorini 'years ago'

One of Kate and William's favourite destinations gets a glowing report from jet-setter Gary Ashworth - but other places often considered ultra luxurious are now over and out, he barbs.

A British entrepreneur who's spent decades enjoying a jet-set lifestyle thanks to his high-flying career has offered his candid thoughts on what are considered some of the world's most exclusive destinations.

Business coach Gary Ashworth, 66, has built up multiple companies with a worth of over $100million and has been a frequent visitor to exclusive resorts and private members' clubs across the globe.

In two videos posted in recent weeks on his Instagram page, the CEO shares his opinions based on his own experiences and ranks a string of lusted-after holiday places and opines what the ultra-rich think of them.

Discussing the glitzy destinations associated with big-spending tourists, he gives short shrift to one of Greece's most visited islands, branding Mykonos 'D tier', and barbing: '...it's peak was ten years ago'.

Santorini is on the receiving end of an even more scathing appraisal, with Mr Ashworth saying: 'it's great for a photo but has been ruined by everyone else's photo - the wealthy left years ago. They just forgot to tell Instagram.'

The wealthy left Santorini 'years ago' according to British-born entrepreneur Gary Ashworth who says the selfie culture has ruined the Greek Island

Also sitting awkwardly in the D-graded bracket is Tulum in Mexico, which he says is 'past its sell-by date...like the sausages in my fridge'.

The Maldives, the Indian Ocean paradise that still floats high at the top of many peoples' bucket lists, is also not a place that those with 'old money' and style frequent much any more, says Mr Ashworth, calling the destination a 'honeymoon factory'.

He follows up: 'It's three grand-a-night to sit in the sea and wave at strangers' drones'.

The cast of The Only Way is Essex might want to cover their ears, for Marbella, perhaps unsurprisingly, is damned by the entrepreneur, who says the Spanish resort is just 'footballers, finance lads and an awful lot of watches that nobody's finished paying for'.

'It's three grand a night to sit in the sea and wave at strangers' drones' - Indian Ocean paradise The Maldives doesn't wash with the truly well-heeled, says Ashworth

Sardinia style: Old money decamps to Porto Cervo every summer, says Ashworth, who gives the emerald-coasted resort his seal of approval

Another European sunspot, Ibiza, lost the classy crowd when 'DJs started charging like brain surgeons'. Ashworth wasps: 'it's a stag do with water around it'.

He ranks Bali the lowest of those put before him, saying the Indonesian idyll no longer holds appeal for luxury travellers, explaining the island was 'brilliant once, but the high-net-worth people have moved on'.

Las Vegas also ranks poorly. He describes Sin City as a has-been for those with pots of cash, and advises those considering going to 'move on'.

St Tropez? Mr Ashworth says the classic French resort 'still delivers' but the shine is coming off, saying the Cote D'Azur destination famous for its 'see and be seen' culture is 'slowly fading'.

Ibiza has lost its charm for high-net-worthers too, suggests the jet-setting businessman - with the island's party culture taking the sheen off for discerning travellers

Timeless: Royal favourite Mustique remains a sophisticated holiday spot for the rich and famous (Pictured: Princess Margaret on Mustique in 1977)

What destinations do impress the hard-to-please businessman?

Europe's poshest alpine ski resorts are amongst his favourites, including Courchevel and Verbier.

He describes the latter as a 'classic', saying it's 'old money and A-tier'.

However, the French-speaking Caribbean paradise of St. Barths gets his highest praise – he says it has retained its exclusivity, with the world's richest people going there 'to just disappear'.

And Mustique, one of the Prince and Princess of Wales's favourite hideaways, also hits the mark.

He gushes: 'If you've never heard of it, you're likely to be in the wrong tax bracket.'

Across the pond, The Hamptons is still a hideaway for the well-heeled. Ashworth says: 'It still works and it always will.'

Porto Cervo on Sardinia also cuts the mustard, he suggests, because 'half of Europe's old money spends their summers there without making a fuss at all. And no fuss is what it's all about.'
