Seventeen years after a man was shot and killed in Atlantic City, authorities have made an arrest.
On Thursday, Atlantic County prosecutors announced that 44-year-old Billie Woods was arrested in connection with the 2009 murder of 32-year-old David Nesbitt in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Prosecutors said at approximately 12:30 a.m. on June 3, 2009, Atlantic City police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 227 N. South Carolina Avenue.
According to investigators, Nesbitt suffered several gunshot wounds and died.
Prosecutors said over the past several months, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit reexamined the cold case and the evidence, ultimately determining that there was probable cause to charge Woods with murder.
On Tuesday, July 14, an Atlantic County grand jury indicted Woods on one count of first-degree murder.
On Aug. 13, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force, Atlantic City Division and members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, with the help of officers with the Atlantic City Police Department, took Woods into custody.
