There’s no place for complacency when you’re building hypercars. Just ask Czinger.

The Southern California-based automaker just unveiled its latest creation, the open-top 21C Spyder, during Monterey Car Week. A removable roof isn’t all that separates the new model from its predecessors, though. It also features a bunch of forward-thinking tech that makes it the most extreme version of the vehicle yet.

The 21C Spyder’s main new feature, and the one that gives it its name, is its removable roof. The new variant looks almost identical to the 21C HDF with a key difference: the top of its trademark bubble cockpit isn’t fixed. Despite this, the roofless vehicle’s ultra-aerodynamic, carbon-fiber body produces an incredible 3,267 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, which Czinger claims is better than any open-top road car before it. With the top up, the vehicle produces 3,307 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, which is identical to the HDF. The removable roof and the extra A-pillar it necessitated only add 22 pounds to the Spyder’s dry weight, which the automaker lists as 3,571 pounds.

The cabin of the new variant, like every 21C before it, features an inline, two-seat layout with the driver positioned in front of the passenger. There are some changes, though, chief of which is the new “NeuralNode” dashboard. Designed in collaboration with generative A.I. company Divergent Technologies, the 3-D-printed cockpit brings together a digital instrument cluster, steering wheel, and other physical controls into one cohesive whole. The driver’s display also doubles as an infotainment system connected to a bespoke eight-speaker Morel hi-fi system.

As wild as the Spyder may look, both inside and out, its most impressive feature remains its in-house-engineered powertrain. The latest 21C features the same setup as the HDF: a 2.88-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 paired with two motors, one of which is located on the front axle and the other on the rear. The hybrid system, which is connected to a seven-speed transaxle gearbox, pumps out 1,250 hp and 692 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to all that might, the car can rocket from zero to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, cover a quarter-mile in 8.7 seconds, and reach a top speed of 205 mph.

Stopping power comes courtesy of a new integrated brake system. The technology, dubbed “BrakeNode,” combines a suspension upright, brake caliper, and hydraulic fluid pathway into a single component. The simplified system reduces unsprung mass and reduces stopping distance by up to 15 percent. The system comes standard on the Spyder and can be retrofitted onto the HDF and 21C Vmax.

In the market for a hypercar that will turn heads? Czinger is taking orders for the 21C Spyder now. It plans to build 30 examples of the vehicle, with pricing beginning at $2.75 million.
