It may’ve taken a while to get here, but NVIDIA has finally made its GeForce NOW game streaming service available for Linux users. It’s been six years since GeForce NOW launched for PC in 2020, after being in beta since 2015, and now NVIDIA officially announced yesterday that its app is out of beta for Linux. The app brings both the streaming service’s game library and RTX features to Linux users, whether they are using a powerful desktop PC or Chromebook laptop. The service supports frame generation, providing up to 120 FPS in either 1440p or 4K, and NVIDIA jibes that “It all adds up for more ways to move from assignments to adventures across nearly any device,” for students using devices they rely on for school.

NVIDIA has worked with the Linux community for months to bring the app, which supports Ubuntu 24.04 and later, making the new Flatpack repository an easy setup for users. Currently, there are over 2,000 games to choose from, and since GeForce NOW is entirely cloud-based, gamers needn’t worry about game installation, and NVIDIA’s servers will handle the GPU-intensive workloads instead. In addition, GeForce NOW can be used on an assortment of devices. “The same flexibility extends to Macs, Surface devices, everyday laptops, Steam Deck and mobile devices,” states NVIDIA.

Nine new additions for the weekend!
  • Car Wash Simulator (New release on Steam, Aug. 10)
  • Pax Autocratica (New release on Steam, Aug. 10)
  • Clawed (New release on Steam, Aug. 13)
  • Hell Let Loose: Vietnam (New release on Steam, Aug. 13)
  • Sandustry (New release on Steam and Xbox, Aug. 13)
  • Cat Mail Co. (Steam)
  • Misery (Steam)
  • Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo (Steam)
  • Pratfall (Steam)

Clearly, 2026 could be one of the biggest years for Linux gaming since the Steam Deck launched. From gaming handhelds to the Steam Machine and a fresh wave of competitive desktop devices, SteamOS and the ongoing addition of support for services such as this, Linux is at least becoming mainstream.
