Since the founding of the award in 2006, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award has played a crucial role in advancing Arab culture and literature worldwide – honoring 144 laureates with life-changing prize money, providing translation grants to publishers looking to bring these award-winning books to their markets, and hosting literary and academic events celebrating Arabic writers and thinkers.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) under the auspices of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the Award recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and is currently open for submissions for the 21st edition, which will be awarded in spring 2027.
