Jim Osborn, co-founder, medical director and chairman of the board of the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, has been named one of four national finalists for The NASCAR Foundation's Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. The winner, chosen entirely by public vote, receives a $100,000 donation for their organization. He is the first Chattanoogan ever selected as a finalist.

Mr. Osborn and his wife, Amy Jo Osborn, founded the Austin Hatcher Foundation in Chattanooga in 2006 after their infant son, Austin "Hatch" Osborn, was born and died there of pediatric cancer.

Now, for the first time, Chattanooga has a chance to bring this national award home, directly funding support for local families facing childhood cancer.

Voting is open now through Sept. 6. The winner will be announced Sept. 8 at The NASCAR Foundation Honors Gala in New York City.

Officials said, "Jim Osborn has been part of the Austin Hatcher Foundation since before it existed. As a father who lost his son, and a physician who knew firsthand where the gaps in supportive care were, he didn't just grieve. He helped build something. Over the past two decades, Jim has given more than 15,000 volunteer hours to the mission, serving as medical director and chairman of the board, leading the Foundation's Men's Group for fathers of children with cancer, and bringing his background as a former professional racecar driver into the Foundation's Industrial Arts Therapy program, the only program of its kind in the nation."
