To be clear: tanks are not becoming obsolete. They didn't become obsolete when man-portable anti-tank weapons first appeared, or when they become more potent later on. They will continue to serve a role on the battlefield. That role may change somewhat, but there is still value in an armored platform that can advance at speed.

It's also very much worth noting that the advent of drones has not meant that Russia (or Ukraine) have stopped using tanks and IFVs/AFVs. These vehicles are still out there on the battlefield because what they do is absolutely still necessary. The environment has become a lot more hostile for them, and certainly countermeasures are being developed on both sides, but they have not gone away, and that's not something that can be blamed on stubbornness or lack of resources.

The US military has been in the drone business for... more than thirty years now. And they certainly have been taking major notice of the way the Ukraine war is shaping up. But the US has always been more inclined to look for fancier, higher-tech solutions over simpler stuff, in part because it has the resources to go for them and in part because it benefits the miltiary-industrial complex to do so. But make no mistake: their eyes are all over this and they have been working on countermeasures and counter-countermeasures to this sort of thing since well before the war.

There has to be some secret program to create terminator style guns that never miss. I know Samsung has an autosniper platform that is successful that came out 20 years ago.

I shudder to think through what we could do if we really wanted to go full tech, no ethics.
