The Most Anticipated Games Of 2027, Ranked
Cloud, fable, clare most anticipated games.

Updated  Aug 8, 2026, 4:30 PM EDT

Ben Jessey is a self-publishing staff writer here at TheGamer who has been writing about video games since 2019. While he has been at TheGamer for a while, he has also written for GameRant, ScreenRant, and WhatCulture in the past. Before all that, he was earning a degree in Film and Television Studies at Leeds Trinity University.

RPGs and action-adventure games are what he’s most experienced in, but Ben has great knowledge of most types of games. This is why he has been able to write hundreds of video game guides since 2019, along with numerous gaming lists. For each guide, he conducts extensive playtesting to ensure accuracy and that all relevant information is included.

I know we're yet to clear our way through an unbelievably busy 2026, but because of Summer Game Fest, I'm already looking ahead to what looks like to be a bumper post-GTA6 world of video games in 2027. There are some mammoth releases, and although I'm certain not all of them will make it in 2027, it's a pretty exciting year to look forward to.

From the gritty tunnels of Metro 2039 to the seismic return to the world of Fable, 2027 is stacked. It also looks like a huge year for horror fans, and as a self-described horror game wimp, I'll likely be watching from the sidelines and holding out Spyro.

Updated August 8, 2026 by Ben Jessey: When we first wrote this article on the most anticipated games of 2027, some titles missed out because not much was released about them yet. So, we've returned to the piece to add a few games that now deserve a spot.

13 Stranger Than Heaven

January 15, 2027

Stranger Than Heaven is a game that takes place within the Like A Dragon universe. It's set in the early to mid 1900s. Therefore, it takes place before all the other games, meaning there will be a whole new cast of characters.

Since it's a Like A Dragon game, it's being developed by RGG Studio, who have a great reputation for delivering excellence. The company doesn't really release duds, especially when it comes to the Like A Dragon series. That alone makes this upcoming action-adventure game exciting.

12 Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis
Lara Croft with her arms extended pointing pistols in both directions in Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis.
February 12, 2027

Tomb Raider is set to return in 2027 in the form of Legacy of Atlantis. This is not a new Lara Croft adventure; it's a remake of the original game in the series. From what we've seen so far, it's not just a simple remake.

The visuals have been vastly upgraded, and the gameplay is more modern and smoother. This makes sense since the original title did release in 1996, so it's a bit clunky these days. Legacy of Atlantis has the potential to bring back the epicness of that first adventure, while also being a more enjoyable game to play.

11 Pokemon Winds And Waves
Twin Pikachus in Pokemon Winds and Waves.
TBA 2027

Some series generate hype just from their name alone. That is the case with the Pokemon series. People have loved these games since the '90s. That said, not everyone appreciates the changes the series has undergone since those early days, but most Pokemon titles are still enjoyable to play.

Therefore, many are excited for the upcoming Winds and Waves, which will be set in a tropical locale and will introduce you to a new generation of Pokemon, which is always thrilling. Whether it can live up to the early entries remains to be seen, but it promises to be fun.

10 Xenoblade Genesis
A character holding a weapon in Xenoblade Genesis.
TBA 2027

Fans of the Xenoblade series have been treated to plenty of re-releases in the past few years, but they will be getting a new title in 2027. The game is called Xenoblade Genesis, meaning it's the first one in the series not to include the word "Chronicles" in its title.

This is likely due to that arc ending in Chronicles 3. So, Genesis seems to be a fresh start for the highly regarded RPG series. It has a lot to live up to, but it's exciting to see the series continue.

9 Until Dawn 2
Neil Newbon in Until Dawn 2.
TBA 2027

The original Until Dawn was a standout game in the narrative adventure genre. To this day, people remember it better than many of Supermassive Games' more recent releases. Speaking of Supermassive Games, it is not the developer for Until Dawn 2. Instead, Firesprite is taking the series' reins.

This creates a bit of concern about whether the second Until Dawn can be as good as the first. But the premise sounds interesting, as it's about a group of ghost hunters who go to a creepy tropical island.

8 Metro 2039
A group of nazi soldiers in Metro 2039.
February 2027

Metro 2039 is one of those games that I will probably admire from afar. It's a highly anticipated sequel but, to be honest, just too scary for me. The latest title from acclaimed studio 4A Games takes us deep into the tunnels beneath the nuclear-irradiated city of Moscow, in a game billed as "a powerful single-player story that weaves exploration, survival, combat, and stealth across a hauntingly beautiful but deadly world with unparalleled immersion."

The Metro games have always been fascinating to me because I love the book series by Dmitry Glukhovsky (and I've just finished reading Roadside Picnic for the Stalker vibes), but books are less scary than video games, and the Metro games give me the proper scaries. Each to their own, of course.

7 The Expanse: Osiris Reborn
The Expanse Osiris Reborn Character Side Profile
TBA Q2 2027

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn has every chance of becoming a cult RPG classic if Owlcat Games can deliver on some hefty expectations. I think those with a desperate and recently-unfulfilled love of the Mass Effect games are holding out hope that Osiris Reborn can channel some of that narrative excellence, match it with some decent combat, and give players the chance to explore a large universe rich with familiar details.

The Expanse itself is already an excellent foundation for a video game, with not only an extensive book series but an acclaimed TV series that has brought the world to life. In Osiris Reborn, you're not a hero. Just a regular mercenary trying to make it in a harsh solar system. I'm so in.

6 Spyro: A Realm Beyond
Closeup of spyro with an evil tower behind him in Spyro A Realm Reborn.
TBA Spring 2027

Ah, here's a game I can play without being terrified. Spyro makes a massive return after a very long absence in Realm Beyond. And by very long absence, I mean almost two decades. That makes me feel incredibly old but also gently excited to see our old purple friend again. With almost 10 million views on the cinematic announcement trailer in just two days, I think it's fair to say this is an anticipated return.

Will we get the Spyro game everyone has been waiting for, a game that truly fits the post-Breath of the Wild generation? I certainly hope so. An open-world Spyro game gliding between trees sounds like absolute bliss. Toys For Bob is a studio with a long and storied history, with previous work on the massive Skylanders games and the recently successful Crash Bandicoot 4, so I reckon our purple boy is in good hands.

5 State of Decay 3

TBA 2027

Another huge return for a series that has a lot of people excited about the next-generation of the formula, if State of Decay 3 can take the zombie settlement survival game in new and exciting directions - though it will just be good to have a version that works well on modern kit.

It took us a while to actually see anything of SOD3 after Xbox announced it hilariously early, but finally we've got news, and the game is actually going to release in 2027, although no date has been confirmed. Despite originally being thought to be an Xbox exclusive, State of Decay 3 will indeed be coming to PS5 and PC at launch.

4 Resident Evil: Veronica
Claire Redfield holding a torch in Veronica.
TBA 2027

More horror here, this time a remake of the 2000 classic Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, simply titled Resident Evil Veronica. Capcom has spent the last few years releasing banger after banger, so I think most fans are going into this expecting nothing short of perfection.

After a gripping announcement trailer with amazing graphics, speculation has already begun to run rife, such as fans thinking Veronica taking the place as the new RE:V and that the game might be in third-person. We won't know more until later in the year, but if you want to keep up-to-date with Resident Evil news, we're always on the beat.
