The Duchess of Sussex has long been admired for her sophisticated approach to fashion and jewellery, but few pieces carry the sentimental significance of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana's jewels.

Among her most recognisable treasures is a delicate pair of diamond and sapphire butterfly earrings, which Meghan has worn on several poignant occasions. 

She recently brought the heirloom to the fore at a charity gala in Canada, pairing the glittering jewels with a striking black cape dress by Greta Constantine.

The choice was particularly touching: Diana herself debuted the earrings during an official visit to British Columbia in 1986, giving Meghan's latest appearance an unmistakable connection to the late Princess.

The earrings are part of a larger, modular jewellery set. The butterfly pendants were first seen on Diana in 1985, when she wore them attached to the necklace for a dinner at Goldsmiths' Hall in London.

Following the Princess' death in 1997, the set was bequeathed to her youngest son, Prince Harry, who later gave them to Meghan. 

She first stepped out in the earrings in 2018 during the couple's tour of Australia, shortly after they announced that they were expecting their first child, Archie.

Now, Meghan's latest outing has once again put the spotlight on the much-loved jewels, sparking fresh interest in butterfly earrings.
