Traffic restrictions will be in place during the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Puducherry for participating in the presentation ceremony of President’s Police Colour to the Puducherry Police on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, D. Divya in a release said there would be restrictions on movement of vehicles on Puducherry Airport Road, Latha Steel Junction, Kokku Park, Rajiv Gandhi Square and Vazhudhavur Road from 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Similar restrictions would be imposed on the stretch from Hotel Accord, PAP Ground, Rajiv Gandhi Square, Kokku Park, Latha Steel House Junction and Puducherry Airport Road from 5.30 a.m. on Sunday, the release said.

Sources said the restrictions were being imposed to facilitate convoy movement from the airport to Hotel Accord on Saturday. Again, the regulations were being imposed on Sunday for the convoy to move from the hotel to the venue at PAP and back to the airport.

Security has been beefed up in Puducherry ahead of the Union Home Minister’s visit. Personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces have also been deployed on security duty.

No Fly Zone declared

As part of strengthening security, the District Collector on Friday issued an order declaring areas falling under the Oulgaret Municipality as ‘No Fly Zone’ on Saturday and Sunday. The District Administration has banned flying of any kind of aviation devices, including UAV, drones, etc., during both the days in Oulgaret.

Preparations reviewed

Namassivayam, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan and Director General of Police Shalini Singh reviewed the preparations at the PAP ground in Gorimedu on Friday.
