SEVASTOPOL, August 13. /TASS/. A Russian Defense Ministry serviceman was killed in a blast in Russia’s city of Sevastopol, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol told reporters.

The agency said a female suspect was detained after allegedly carrying out the attack on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services.

Circumstances

- A Russian Defense Ministry serviceman was killed in Sevastopol, the FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol said.

- The blast caused injuries that were fatal.

Investigation

- The FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol detained a Russian woman suspected of carrying out the attack shortly after it occurred.

- Investigators established that the woman, born in 1994, carried out the blast on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services.

- Law enforcement officers are conducting operational and investigative measures.

- Authorities are deciding whether to open a criminal case.

- Law enforcement officers cordoned off the scene, and specialists are working there, officials told TASS.

About the detainee

- The Russian woman detained over the blast had previously been fined for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, according to court records from the Goryachy Klyuch City Court in the Krasnodar Region.

- The court found Margarita Reutt guilty of an administrative offense under Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of Russia’s Administrative Code in summer 2025 for discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces to protect Russia’s interests and citizens.

- She admitted guilt, and the court imposed a $356 administrative fine.

Sevastopol governor's statement

- Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev thanked FSB officers for detaining the suspect in the blast that killed the Russian serviceman.

- He also highlighted the role of local residents who assisted the security services.

- The governor said their vigilance, concern and courage helped law enforcement quickly detain the woman.
