ARKHANGELSK, August 13. /TASS/. India is ready to work with Russia to develop the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and establish cooperation in shipbuilding and ship repair, the republic’s Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Venkatesapathy Sivaperumal said.

"Russia possesses a remarkable nuclear-powered fleet with unprecedented capabilities for developing the Northern Sea Route. We are very pleased to cooperate in the fields of shipbuilding and ship repair in this region. Modern merchant vessels require modern engines and hulls. All this can be built here. For India, this creates potential areas for industrial cooperation with Russia," he said at the Arctic - Regions Forum in Arkhangelsk.

"With Russia’s specialization and expertise in the shipbuilding sector polar research vessels and tankers can venture into new latitudes," the official noted. "With the Eastern Maritime Corridor and the dynamic development of the Northern Sea Route, all these goals are becoming attainable. We believe cooperation between Russia and India in the maritime transport sector will only continue to improve," he added.
