Connecticut fair season starts amid hot weather

What better way to spend a Friday night than at a fair?
The 24th annual North Branford Poco Festival opened today, filled with carnival rides, the smell of fair foods, carnival rides, people petting the farm animals, and the smell of fair foods.
“It’s just a really good time towards the end of summer before the kids go back to school.” said Rob Forbotnick. “It’s a great time and that’s really important for the community.”
The Poco Festival stands for potato and corn, combined.
Like any fair, there’s also tons of fun carnival games where people can win big prizes. Despite the heat rolling into the first week of August, it’s not stopping people from going to enjoy a fun night out.
However, it’s not just people trying to beat the heat. People walked around with hand held fans, and even tried to cool some parrots down.
At the exotic petting zoo, kangaroos took a rest, and capybaras cooled down in its tub with water.
Similarly, at the Wolcott Country Fair, farm animals like sheep, alpacas, and ducks all tried to stay cool.
The Wolcott Country Fair is the area’s largest agricultural fair. The fair says there’s several air conditioning options throughout its fairgrounds.
Both fairs will run through Sunday. The North Branford Poco Festival is set to launch fireworks on Saturday.
