West Nile Virus confirmed on Till Street in West Haven

The West Haven Health Department says routine mosquito testing confirms presence of the West Nile Virus on Till Street.
“They say it is the only location the virus is detected and they say partners are working on reducing mosquito activity in the area.”We are actively working with our partners to address the issue and reduce mosquito activity in the area. Continued monitoring and control measures are underway,” officials said.
How You Can Protect Yourself
Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin or lemon eucalyptus oil.
Wear long sleeves and pants during sundown.
Remove standing water around your home.
Make sure window and door screens are in good condition.
“Most people infected with WNV do not have symptoms. Some may experience fever, headache, body aches, or fatigue. Severe illness is rare but can occur, especially in older adults or those with weakened immune systems. If you develop concerning symptoms, contact your healthcare provider,” they said.
