Accusations of possible election misconduct in Bridgeport probate judge race

NBC Connecticut is following accusations of possible election misconduct in Bridgeport.
The accusations stem from allegations that probate judge candidate Mark Bradley’s brother, Dennis Bradley, opened a resident’s ballot and showed her how to change her vote before resealing it.
The incident was caught on a security camera inside the woman’s apartment, and the video was shared with NBC Connecticut. Some of the interaction is missing, including 20 seconds leading up to her allowing Dennis Bradley and another man into her apartment.
NBC Connecticut has not been able to independently verify what happened during that time.
The woman, Alesia Dennis, said she was confused as Dennis Bradley asked about her ballot, so she secured her dogs and let them in. The video picked up from there.
“I let them in,” Alesia said. “I’m wondering why they’re here, and then they ask about my ballot. I made my vote, and it’s sealed up and everything.”
Dennis Bradley can be heard on the video saying: “It looks like you really sealed this bad boy […] you did a really good job.”
Alesia said a man she identified as Dennis Bradley and the other unidentified man allegedly opened her filled absentee ballot in their home after they asked about it, and then she said they then verbally walked her through how to change her vote.
According to Alesia, Dennis Bradley then requested she change her vote in the race to a vote for his brother. Alesia said she complied.
Alesia then said that Dennis Bradley helped her seal her ballot back up.
In Connecticut, it’s a Class D Felony for an agent of a candidate to be knowingly present when an applicant executes the ballot. It is unclear if the men in the video were acting as agents of a candidate.
It’s also illegal in the state for them to handle the ballot. It’s unclear from the video NBC Connecticut has obtained whether any election laws were violated, and no one has been charged in this incident.
Alesia said she tried to remain calm but noted her discomfort with the whole situation.
“I just let it play out. I couldn’t wait until they left, and when they left, I made that phone call to a friend, so she suggested I file a report,” Alesia explained.
Alesia said she filed a report with the Bridgeport Police Department, who she said took the ballot in question.
NBC Connecticut caught up with Mark Bradley outside of Bridgeport’s Government Center while campaigning to ask about the video.
“This is nothing but a smear campaign from the Ganim party,” Mark Bradley said. “They are trying to distract the voters. This was essentially a setup from them, right, to get [Dennis Bradley] to possibly go in there, record this…”
Paul Ganim is the brother of current Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim. Paul Ganim is currently serving as the city’s probate judge and is facing a Democratic primary challenge from Mark Bradley.
“They know better,” Paul Ganim said. “You don’t touch somebody’s ballot.”
NBC Connecticut has attempted to reach Dennis Bradley but has not received a response as of this time.
Alesia said she went to the city and they allowed her to vote on a new ballot.
