Snapchat has updated its content recommendation systems globally to eliminate videos created entirely by artificial intelligence from its Spotlight discovery tab. The policy change aims to prioritize authentic human creativity while actively countering the rapid proliferation of automated, low-quality digital media across the social network.

Under the newly enforced guidelines, Snapchat will no longer recommend or distribute financial rewards for videos that are generated completely through AI tools. According to official statements from the company, the primary goal of this strategic policy shift is to ensure that Spotlight remains a dedicated digital space for original perspectives, personal storytelling, and authentic creative work shared by real individuals.

While fully AI-generated video content will no longer receive algorithmic distribution or monetization opportunities, Snapchat clarified that creators may still utilize AI-driven tools for editing, enhancing, or refining human-made content. This operational distinction ensures that content creators can continue leveraging modern digital video production tools without displacing human-led creative effort.

This strategic adjustment aligns Snapchat with major technology and social media platforms, including YouTube, LinkedIn, and Meta, which have all implemented stricter algorithmic filters and policy frameworks to curb the spread of low-quality synthetic media, commonly referred to within the broader technology industry as “AI slop”. The updated recommendation algorithms are now fully active worldwide, expanding on platform adjustments initiated earlier this year when Snapchat first signaled plans to reduce the visibility of artificial posts across user feeds.

By limiting both the reach and financial incentives for fully automated content, Snapchat seeks to preserve user engagement and maintain higher content quality standards across its video discovery ecosystem. The platform’s direct emphasis on human-centric media reflects a broader industry response to the operational challenges posed by generative artificial intelligence in consumer social feeds, prioritizing authentic interactions over mass-produced synthetic posts.
