OpenAI has introduced major ChatGPT upgrades, enhancing model performance for subscribers while expanding access to unlimited text chat for free users.

OpenAI is deploying a refined GPT-5.6 Sol tailored for daily ChatGPT interactions. The updated AI model generates concise, context-aware answers while minimizing formatting clutter. Internal testing across legal, medical, and financial prompts revealed a 68% decrease in factual errors compared to GPT-5.5 Instant.

For Plus and Pro subscribers, the release consolidates Instant and Thinking modes into a unified experience across web, mobile, and desktop apps. A new reasoning slider grants direct control over processing depth:

• Low Reasoning: Ideal for quick answers and simple queries.
• High Reasoning: Optimized for complex coding, research, writing, and multi-step planning.

This model update applies exclusively to general chat; ChatGPT Work and Codex remain unaffected.

To support non-subscribers, OpenAI has eliminated text chat restrictions for free accounts. Free ChatGPT users now receive unlimited text chats powered by GPT-5.6 Luna.

The update also adds a dedicated “Think” button, enabling free tier users to trigger deeper reasoning capabilities on demand for challenging questions.

These AI feature updates arrive as rival platforms integrate native OS artificial intelligence, such as upcoming Apple Siri AI features. While competitors may require paid cloud subscriptions like iCloud+ for high-volume tasks, OpenAI’s unlimited free text chat significantly lowers the barrier for everyday AI usage.
