The father of a college soccer coach allegedly shot dead his Japanese wife during a late-night argument in their suburban home.
Leland Jameson, 64, was charged with second-degree murder after a frantic 911 call from their house on a quiet cul-de-sac in Fair Oaks, Virginia, on Sunday night.
When the operator answered at 10.21pm, they 'could hear sounds consistent with a disturbance' before they were disconnected, police said.
A second call was placed at 10.39pm, but police didn't say who the caller was or what they said.
Police arrived at the $1 million four-bedroom home to find Chisen Azuma Jameson, 60, dead on the floor with gunshot wounds to her upper body.
The property sits in Fairfax County, one of the toniest areas in the US.
Deputy Chief Brendan Hooke said detectives quickly determined that Jameson shot his wife and took him into custody.
The couple's son, Leland Jr, 30, played soccer for HCSC Den Helder voetbalclub in the Netherlands, and for Osaka FC in Japan.

Jameson was a program director of computational and applied mathematics at the National Science Foundation for more than 20 years.
His job included assessing hundreds of grant applications for federal funding from universities and research groups.
The accomplished scientist was also a frequent speaker at scientific and government conferences.
