The sister song to my Mega Man X3 Blizzard Buffalo remix, as debuted in An OverClocked Christmas, Vol. XVI, this Christmas-y banger was done for DoD's Dogs v Cats Month back in November 2025. Still aim and plan on at (some point soon) trying again to get the Blizzy Buffy track past the 'evil' Judges, but this is something to chew on in the meantime. :)
As with its sister track, this indeed -- once again -- takes a page from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Nightwish as primary references for how and why I made the arrangement. I've said a lot about the "theatrical" thought process and inspiration behind it all in my Blizz Buff write-up previously, so I won't rehash much here other than to say this was leaning a lot more into the Symphonic Metal aspect of things, rather than Symphonic Orchestra with Electronica elements to it. This was all in a massive thanks to minusworld, who stood by my vision for this, unwaveringly, and has not only been a great help in trying to mix and produce this track akin to a PuD work of art (irony to be had with TSO -- much and many respects to the man), but in being a mentor, sticking by me from start to finish with carving out the track and evolving it into what it is today. :D
I'm also thankful for the reception it and some of my other work has had in the DoD scene, in a positive sense. I know they don't rank mega high, but the fact people like it is what counts. Nice #externalvalidation.(tm) aside, maybe...just maybe I'll take up Naop's excited idea to one day make my first EP/LP remixes release be Oops All Maverick! tracks from the MMX1 - MMX8 lineup, but only covering the ones of a wintery / crystalline aesthetic, and transforming them accordingly. ♥ This isn't my first rodeo trying to work with and incorporate a full-ass orchestra into a remix, but it was my first time ACTUALLY trying to create Symphonic Metal.
Hope people here like it, at least. . . Christmas is long-past overdue, but this needed a bit more time in the oven. Again, a sincere and heartfelt thank you to minusworld for trying his damnedest to rein this all in and doing all the crazy, amazing mixing for it, after my dozen or so attempts, including for the DoD submit! ^_^;
Thank you for reviewing this track. Here's to praying I can (finally) beat the ~50% pass-rate allegations, lol.

opens with some sfx of various kinds, and we start to get some notes around 0:20. 0:38 starts the piece more formally, and there's an interesting groove that emerges around 0:55 once some bits start to come together. the original's primarily-offbeat melody has been corralled into a more downbeat-centric approach in this section. there's some doubling of the melody in the bass element initially, which is a bit confusing auditorily as you don't ever hear a fundamental. this wouldn't be a huge deal but there's nothing between that and most of the other instruments, so the distance means it feels very top-heavy. some of the chords don't appear to be supporting the melodic material above, either. this is more obvious in the second section, starting around 1:49 - it feels real empty and top-heavy until you finally get the bass on the fundamental at 2:06 and then it sounds great. 2:26's flourish sounds confusing too - like a lot of the instruments don't have short enough tails to avoid stepping on themselves, several times in a row.
there's a big break at 2:47, and the bells here are nice. the long-attack strings behind it don't really fit the realistic elements of the leads, but i get what you're going for. there's a heavily dissonant element super-panned in the right ear at 2:59 that i think is intended to be a wolf howl, but it's just quiet enough that all i hear is the clashing, not what it's doing.
3:30's a big arrival point. some of the track's dissonance has bled into what minusworld plays right away, but the rising line right after that is exciting especially with the melody in the orchestra behind it. and then the following line around the 4 minute mark is also exciting. drums are doing some interesting driving roll-based stuff which is cool too. there's a second key change at 4:35 that sounds very strange in the right ear initially because it's outlining chords that haven't happened yet.
after a heroic final note around 5:00, there's a sudden significant shift to a slower section, with the really slow-attack strings featured again. these strings don't sound pensive or calming, they just sound low-poly - the super slow attack is really damning. there's some more sfx and it's done.
i think there's some really neat sections here. most of what plays from 3:30 to 5:00 is great, for example. there's a lot of dissonance in this track that doesn't feel intentional as it's not prepped or used, it's just existing. separately, i called out several times that the string pad's long attack sounds unintentionally extended, but that extends elsewhere too - there's several times that instruments are used that have what sounds like unintentional results from how they're used (like the flourishes at 2:26 and after).
i definitely think that there's a place for this track on the site. there's some scoring elements that need to be cleaned up and balanced, some dissonance to identify and correct, and some instrument choices that should be improved upon so they sound intentional rather than "well, this is the best i had". but on the other side of that is a neat track that i think a lot of folks would like.
