An investigation is underway after a driver recorded himself using a sidewalk as an “escape path” from the traffic-jammed Highway 63.

In a video shared on social media on Tuesday afternoon, the man is seen driving his vehicle against traffic, onto what appears to be a pedestrian path on the edge of the highway in Fort McMurray.

“I love finding my own little private roadways, saves me so much time,” a person can be heard saying in the video, posted to Facebook on Tuesday.

The highway, which has been a pain point for many residents, is undergoing long overdue repairs, with the provincial government advising residents to expect delays along the route over the next few weeks.

“Oh my God, look how ridiculous I am here,” the person can then be heard saying in the video.

At the start of the publicly shared clip, a pedestrian is seen walking towards the moving vehicle and could be heard sternly asking the driver if he’s “lost,” to which the driver replied “yes,” while laughing.

“Short-cut complete brother, we did it,” the person says later in the video, before they conclude filming.

Some online commenters expressed their disbelief at the driver posting the incident online, while others stated their disappointed with the person’s actions.

Wood Buffalo RCMP Cpl. Natasha Lytwenko on Wednesday told Postmedia the video had been brought to police’s attention and Traffic Services are investigating the incident.
