BERLIN, August 12. /TASS/. A petition calling for preserving the Russia House in Berlin was submitted to the Bundestag, Josephine Thyret, the co-chair of the Berlin branch of the BSW party, said.

"We have filed [a petition] to the Bundestag, the petition is there. They have been considering it for quite a long time. I have no idea which criteria they are using," she said at a party event. "Every day, we wait to see if it will be accepted [for consideration]."

BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht said earlier that her party had prepared a petition against the demands by some political forces to close the Russia House. The text was released on the change. org platform and by now has been signed by 4,500 people.

Russia House was inaugurated in Berlin in 1984. Its mission is to develop cultural and humanitarian, as well as scientific and educational ties between Russia and Germany, to provide assistance to Russian nationals living in Germany, and to popularize Russian culture and the Russian language.
