NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 invite you to help JPS Health Network today. If you enjoy knitting, crocheting, or sewing, JPS Health Network is calling all hands to volunteer to lend their time and talent and donate handmade blankets, quilts, and other small items as part of the JPS Health Network Helping Hands Volunteer Program. These gifts will go to patients and their families throughout the health system. A handmade item brings joy, empathy, and compassion to a person that needs it the most.
Volunteers are asked to create a handmade item based on the needs of JPS Health Network patients. Baby items include blankets, baby booties, and hats. Adult items include crochet or knitted afghans, fleece or quilted blankets, hats, scarves, ostomy bag covers, post mastectomy heart pillows, fidget or sensory blankets, and resolution squares for grieving patients. Most of the adult items will go to cancer patients and geriatric care patients.
Recently, JPS Health Network held their annual Sewing Day event where volunteers gathered to make quilts, blankets, and other small gifts for young patients and their families. While Sewing Day is an amazing community effort, the health system sees patients daily that need the generosity and compassion that these small gifts create.
Items donated by the Helping Hands volunteers are accepted year-round and should be new or unused, clean, and washed prior to drop-off. JPS does not provide fabric and other supplies. Please schedule a time for drop off by contacting JPS Volunteer Services at 817-702-1590 or volunteers@jpshealth.org.
