Chartered Speed Limited, one of India's leading passenger mobility companies, is expanding its electric bus deployment to nearly 3,000 vehicles across 18 cities under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa & e-Drive Scheme. The company said the rollout is aimed at extending modern, sustainable public transport to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, with the completed network expected to cover close to 20 crore green kilometres annually.
As part of the expansion, the company has commenced electric bus operations in Shillong, Jaipur and Bhilwara.
In Shillong, 55 electric buses are being deployed under the scheme — comprising 25 nine-metre buses configured as 27-seaters and 30 seven-metre buses configured as 22-seaters. The fleet was flagged off by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
In Rajasthan, Chartered Speed has an order for 876 electric buses, with 318 allocated to Jaipur and 50 to Bhilwara. The initial phase, flagged off by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, saw 29 buses begin operations in Jaipur and 18 in Bhilwara, with the remainder to be commissioned in phases.
The company said the deployment is supported by investments in driver recruitment, training programmes and an integrated Command & Control Centre for real-time fleet monitoring.
Sanyam Gandhi, Whole-Time Director of Chartered Speed, said the launches mark progress toward the company's broader goal of deploying 3,000 e-buses across 18 cities, and reflect growing momentum for electric mobility adoption in India.
Founded in 2007, Chartered Speed operates a fleet of more than 2,000 buses across multiple Indian states. The company has filed a draft red herring prospectus with SEBI in connection with a proposed initial public offering, subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions.
