The 2016 throwback trend has swept the internet in recent days with hoards of social media users posting snaps from a decade ago.

Celebrities have also jumped on the bandwagon with the likes of Mindy Kaling, Amy Schumer and Eva Longoria taking a trip down memory lane. 

From cringe flower crown Snapchat filters to overly saturated edits, Daily Mail takes a look through the famous faces who couldn't resist paying tribute to yesteryear. 

Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling 'almost didn't post' her throwback snaps because of how different she looks.

The actress, 46, shared a series of photos from behind the scenes of filming The Mindy Project which aired from 2012 to 2017.

In the pictures, Kaling modeled a variety of outfits and posing alongside various members of the cast and crew as well as the late TV legend Betty White.

Captioning her upload, she wrote: 'I saw this 2016 trend and loved it and almost didn't post because I look different but these pics are too fun not to share.'

The Office alum added: '(I wonder if anyone else can relate lol) but I loved this time and all my memories from then, so had to post! Enjoy!!!!' 

Amy Schumer 

Amy Schumer described 2016 as 'cray' as she got involved in the trend.

It was a big year for Schumer, who landed voiceover roles in The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob's Burgers, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album and Best Spoken Word Album.

'One pic is accidentally in there it's of my and my great grandmother,' Schumer said alongside her series of snaps.

'She was a bootlegger and her liquor store is still on 54th Street Schumers Liquor Store.'

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria had a great time jumping on the 2016 bandwagon and shared selfies she had taken with Snapchat filters.

In one photo, the 50-year-old Desperate Housewives star posed up a storm with the classic flower crown filter.

'Actually yeah, bring back 2016 I miss those filters,' she captioned her upload.

Melissa McCarthy 

Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy was equally enthused by the trend.

In her Instagram upload, the 55-year-old remembered how she was shooting two films.

'The year was 2016,' she wrote. 

'Life of the Party & The Boss were happening and through it all I remained *very* devoted to my beloved HIPSTAMATIC!! For the VIBES!!!!'

Lena Dunham

In 2016, Lena Dunham's hit HBO show Girls aired its fifth and penultimate season.

'What a time to be alive #2016,' the 39-year-old said as she celebrated the year with photos of her cast mates, her executive producer Judd Apatow and a selfie with a horse.

Hailey Bieber 

Describing her 2016, Hailey Bieber said, 'you just had to be there.'

Although the model, 29, split from her now-husband Justin Bieber for a time at the top of the year, she would go on to sign with the New York modeling agency IMG Models in March.

Bieber ended the year as the cover star of Australian's Harper's Bazaar in November.

Nowadays, she and Justin are happily married and are parents to their two-year-old son, Jack.  

John Legend 

Singer John Legend also got involved with the throwback trend.

The award-winning artist, 47, posted a carousel of photos beginning with a tender snap of him kissing his wife Chrissy Teigen just moments after she had given birth to their newborn daughter, Luna.

Legend also paid tribute to his sixth studio album, Darkness and Light, as well as the acclaimed film La La Land, in which he played a musician alongside Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

The singer now shares four children with Teigen, whom he wed in 2013. 

Lucy Hale  

For Lucy Hale, 2016 was an unforgettable year as it marked the end of her show Pretty Little Liars after seven seasons.

The 36-year-old actress, who played Aria in the Freeform series, reflected on just how much has changed in the last decade.

In her Instagram upload, Hale said that Fifth Harmony sang one of her favorite songs of the year and that she was entering my Saturn return.

'So much has changed but damn I appreciate all these memories and people so much,' she added.
