A rapist who attacked a girl aged 14 while on bail for grooming offences has been jailed for ten years.

Scott Ijomanta put his victim through a horrific ordeal at his flat in Glasgow.

The 38 year-old – who claimed he was just 12 whilst using social media platform Snapchat – told the girl at one stage: ‘I can see that you are terrified – it just makes me want to kill you.’

The dishevelled and frantic teenager eventually got out of the locked flat badly hurt and made it back to her home.

Ijomanta struck a year after he bought train tickets for two girls aged 12 and 13 to travel from England to Glasgow – but police stopped the pair.

He was yesterday back at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of abduction, assault and rape as well as sending sexual communications to a child.

He refused to stand up in the dock while being sentenced by judge Tom Hughes.

The judge told Ijomanta: ‘You have been convicted of the rape of a 14-year-old child and sending sexual communications to children, buying them tickets to encourage them to Scotland.

‘This type of offending is totally and utterly unacceptable. This can never be tolerated. The children were put in a very difficult situation. I can only hope, in due course, that they will be able to move on with their lives.’

The trial heard that Ijomanta’s victim agreed to meet in August 2024 after they had been in contact on Snapchat. She told him her age, but Ijomanta initially pretended he was much younger.

He gave his address and offered to pay for a taxi. After she arrived, he locked the door.

Ijomanta offered her a bar of chocolate and a drink thought to have been alcohol. The court heard how soon after ‘things changed’.

He flew into a rage claiming the girl had stolen his phone and glasses, telling her: ‘I am going to rape you. I am sorry for the things that I am going to make you do.’

Ijomanta also lied that he had cancer stating she could go to the police as he apparently ‘did not have long to live anyway’.

He told her: ‘Why would you come to my house if you did not expect this to happen?’

He also threatened to turn up at her school if she cried out and also threatened to harm her parents.

The young victim eventually escaped from Ijomanta’s flat.

Her father told the jury that after she hardly touched her dinner, he decided to talk to the girl stating that ‘no matter what happened’, he was not ‘going to be angry’.

He said: ‘There was no spark of life. She was not animated in any way. I held her hand and told her it was not her fault.’

Jurors heard the girl recall the attack in prerecorded testimony and police interviews.

Prosecutor Chris McKenna said: ‘I suggest her evidence was a compelling, unvarnished account of a 14-year-old girl simply telling you what happened.’

The trial also heard how Ijomanta had been on bail for preying on the other girls online in 2023. The rapist, who will be monitored after his release was placed on the sex offenders register and banned from going near the victims.

Following the hearing, Detective Constable Joe Gear said: ‘I want to thank the girls who assisted our investigation, their support was instrumental in bringing him to justice.

‘While nothing can undo what they endured, I hope this outcome offers them some form of closure.’
