The Masked Dancer's newest judge Peter Crouch has revealed he once asked his wife Abbey Clancy if she was secretly competing as a contestant on the show.

The former footballer, 41, confessed he became suspicious that she was a participant named 'Scissors', but couldn't be certain since the mystery celebrity was in costume.

It all began when fellow panellist Oti Mabuse claimed she takes the guessing game extremely seriously, detailing the lengths she goes to crack the clues.

At the ITV Entertainment Schedule Launch at London's White City House on Tuesday, she told MailOnline and other press: 'I feel like a super spy.

'I also feel like its a 24 hour job, I look at all the celebrities, I look at all the shows, I look at who's in the press right now.

That was when Peter joked, 'I remember leaning over to Abbie and saying, "Are you scissors?"

Presenter Joel Dommett added: 'It was great that she came along with all the kids in the front row. It was so wonderful to have them all there.

'We've never done that before, to have a family of one of the judges who were there and featuring on the show asking who they think it is.'

Peter and Abbey got married in 2011 and share children Sophia, 11, Liberty, seven, Johnny, four and Jack, three. 

Peter was confirmed to join the judging panel of The Masked Dancer for series two back in May.

He will step in for Mo Gilligan, who was a judge during series one, as he joins the panel alongside Jonathan Ross, Davina and Oti.

Mo is still very much a part of TMD, but will be missing most of the series due to work commitments in the US and Peter will be keeping his seat warm.

The competition, which is a spin-off of hit The Masked Singer, will return to ITV on September 3 after a successful first season in 2021.

The show sees 12 celebrities compete to put on a standout dance performance as their identities are kept covered behind elaborate costumes.
