Lorraine Kelly took a cheeky swipe at late James Bond star Sir Sean Connery during her ITV show on Friday.

The host, 64, made reference to the movie star's infamous toupee during a discussion about who could play her in a movie.

When asked to name an actor she opted for fellow Scot joking: 'Oh crikey, I don’t know, I don't know who could do it… Sean Connery, in a wig’.

Before quipping: ‘Well he always wore a wig, but a longer one’.

Sean, who passed away in 2020 aged 90, originated the role of James Bond and according to GQ wore a hairpiece for every one of outings as 007.

The host made reference to the actor's infamous toupee during a discussion about who could play her in a movie (Sean pictured in 1967's You Only Live Twice)

According to the publication his  toupee was attached with glue and combed into his actual thinning locks to achieve a full head of hair.

It comes after Lorraine revealed that she isn't a big fan of attending high-profile fancy events despite being one of the biggest stars in daytime television.

The TV presenter,  who hosts her own show Lorraine and has spent 40 years on screen, admitted she still considers herself as 'working class' because of her upbringing.

According to The Mirror, Lorraine told Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast that she is proud of her background but sometimes doubts herself at 'posh events'.

Lorraine, who lives in Berkshire with her cameraman husband Steve, said: 'I still have working class cringe, that voice if you get an invitation to say go and meet Prince William for some charity thing. You go, "Oh God, I can’t go."

'It’s weird, I know it’s silly and I talk to myself about it and say don’t be daft, but I still have that kind of feeling... but yes, I do consider myself working class and I’m very proud of it.'

The Scottish star also claimed she hates going to red carpet events - despite attending many in previous years.

When asked to name an actor for the role she opted for her fellow Scot joking: 'Oh crikey, I don’t know, I don't know who could do it… Sean Connery, in a wig’

Before quipping: ‘Well he always wore a wig, but a longer one’ (L in 1983's Never Say Never Again and R in 2009)

She said: 'For a start, it’s a faff, you’ve got to get ready. It’s probably a Scottish thing – don’t get too big for your boots, don’t draw attention. I’m not daft, I know things will stop eventually. But I never take it for granted.'

It comes after former BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin stood in for Lorraine for a day in December 2023, just before Christmas.

Fans swarmed Twitter during the programme to praise the host, who quit her long-running role on BBC Breakfast after almost 20 years on the show in 2021.

Lorraine is frequently absent from the show, with Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard acting as regular stand-ins for the host, however in October Louise made her debut as host following her move from BBC to ITV

As well as praise for Louise, viewers were left grumbling over Lorraine's absence - insisting the star dodges her role thus does not deserve the eponymous show title.

The TV presenter, who hosts her own show Lorraine and has spent 40 years on screen, admitted she still considers herself as 'working class' because of her upbringing

Twitter users penned: 'I think someone should create a chart or something of how many times Lorraine has presented her show this year Vs other presenters. I genuinely think others have presented it more than her #lorraine...

'Nah, sorry I’m not having it! How can a TV presenter have a show named after them but never show up for work? Lorraine Kelly is a disgrace! The show is presented by anyone but work-shy Lorraine. It needs renaming at this point!...

'She’s gotten away with it for far too long... Why is “Lorraine” called “Lorraine”? She’s never on the show... I need the same amount of Annual Leave as Lorraine'.

When Louise quit BBC Breakfast in 2021, she explained: 'I've loved being part of it, but I've decided it is time that I stopped setting my alarm for 3:40 – sometimes when I'm feeling very rebellious 3:46 in the morning – and I'm going to be leaving...

'It's not going to be for a while, and just before anything else I wanted to thank everybody who's watching for your loyalty and support over all those years. I have absolutely loved being part of it...

'I will really miss it. But it is time now to stop that alarm early in the morning, and thank you for watching all those years as well'.
